The Provincial Government of Apayao, through the Provincial Health Office (PHO), in partnership with Apayao State College (ASC) conducted ‘Mental Health Awareness Among the Youth’ on October 9 at the EKB San Isidro Sur Gymnasium.
PHO Consultant Dr. Jayjay Roaquin highlighted the importance of mental well-being while striving for academic success, reminding and assuring the audience: “It’s okay to ask for help; we are all here to support one another.”
Dr. Rema Bascos-Ocampo, Campus Academic Dean, acknowledged the growing challenges that students are facing, from academic pressures to societal expectations, emphasizing the need to prioritize mental health for personal growth and academic achievement.
The event gathered student leaders from ASC-Luna Campus who gained valuable insights on critical topics such as suicide awareness, stress management, and available mental health services. PHO Consultant Dr. Roaquin tackled suicide education, while Claudine M. Caluducan of PDOHO shared techniques for managing stress. Psychometrician Eleanor Janine C. Guillermo introduced the province’s mental health support programs, including peer support and the crisis helpline.
As the event concluded, College Nurse Eunice M. Aloag reminded everyone, “Always remember, the next time you feel undervalued, consider taking time to relax and recharge. Alternatively, you may need to step away. Be courageous enough to change your surroundings and seek a place where your worth is acknowledged and valued.”
